Bullying and Suicide: The Psychological Truth

Bullying does not cause suicide. It’s much more complicated than the media and special interest groups would lead you to believe.

Bullying behavior is mean and inappropriate. You’ll get no argument from me on that. But, should it be illegal or blamed for all the consequences depicted in the press? I don’t think so.

This recent article in Psychology Today articulates the argument in a way the media chose not to. With most issues, they’re more complex than a 20-second sound bite can represent.

The emotional impulse you feel after watching or reading such a story should propel you to learn more and investigate, not react with emotional vitriol.
