Personal Protection On A Date

Posted by:

Protecting yourself on a date does not need to involve advanced self defense moves.  Using common sense and powers of observation should be your main strategy.

According to the department of justice, women are more likely to be attacked by someone they know.   This includes someone you may be dating as well as an acquaintance of yours.  Looking after your personal protection is not much different then other scenarios.

  • Go on new or blind dates with another couple.  Remember other safety tips recommend traveling in groups of 2 or more, dating (especially new dates) are no different.
  • Observe your date throughout the night.  Are they quick-tempered?  Do they show impatience?  Are they pushy?
  • Minimize alcohol intake.  Being aware and in tune with your intuition is one of your most valuable assets.
  • Inquire as to your date’s background and other personal information.  If he avoids answering questions or is vague, what might he be hiding?
  • Minimize your alone time until you’ve gotten
    to know the person.
  • Always carry your cell phone and make sure you have enough charge for the night
  • Let others know where you’re going and perhaps set times to check in with each other
  • Carry mace, pepper spray or another small, concealable personal protection product (and know when to use it)
  • TRUST your intuition – said it before – but your intuition is one of your most important assets.  Stay sober, alert and pay attention to what is happening… and avoid wishing it to be a certain way.

Dating does not have to be scary or a risk to your personal protection if you follow these simple strategies.  You’ll find, once you set up a simple process to follow for the first, second and perhaps third date, your personal protection is looked after and you can focus on enjoying your date and getting to know someone new.
