Stay Safe On Campus With Your “Kit”

Posted by:

Carry your ‘kit’ wherever you go on campus or off.

Your ‘kit’ is what you need in case of emergency.

Things to include, at a minimum:

  • Your ID (Drivers License, Campus ID, etc)
  • Cell phone (Pre-programmed with emergency numbers
(Security, police, RA, fire and ICE listing, person to call ‘in case of emergency’)
  • Weapon (pepper spray, mace or other personal defense spray)

Whether you live on or off campus, familiarize yourself with your campus safety practices and follow them.

Know where the emergency call stations are.

These are approximately 10 feet tall, usually painted in a bright, easy-to-see color for quick identification.

If you carry a weapon, spend a little extra time and money to get the appropriate training.  And be sure you verify whether it’s legal for you to carry it.

From first hand experience, most people have really bad gun handling practices.

In the Marines I received hundreds of hours of training just on ‘safe handling procedures’ alone, so, I can attest to the importance of proper training.

Getting the appropriate training is important so you become confident, and competent, with your weapon.

It’s also important to understand when it’s appropriate to use it, or not.
