Self Defense Strategy: Know When to Go Animal!

Posted by:

He won’t go away and grabbed you when you tried.

Based on numerous factors, you’ve made a decision to fight back.

Understand, you are now the weapon.

This is not the time for small, half-hearted defenses. Now is the time for a full-on offensive.

If you have personal defense spray or a handgun, use them. This assumes you’ve received appropriate training and have a good idea when it’s appropriate (or not) to use these weapons.

Imagine, It’s dark, he presses a gun up against your back and says “keep walking and get in that car over there.”

What do you do?

It may be one of the scariest moments of your life, but if attacked and the assailant demands you get in a car, vehicle, building or enclosure, resist to the best of your ability (and judgment).

Self Defense Strategy: Always Carry Your “Kit”

Carry your self defense ‘kit’ wherever you go.

Your ‘kit’ is what you need in case of emergency. It’s what you should have with you whenever you leave your house or apartment. In the Marines, our ‘kit’ was filled with basic survival and self defense items.

For practical self defense, carrying canteens of water and extra ammunition may not be appropriate ;-) but carrying essential elements for your protection certainly is.

Things to include, at a minimum:

It’s better to avoid a fight if possible.

In the movies it usually works out pretty good for the star, but real life is less scripted and involves much greater risk.

That being said, It’s a good idea to “Master” at least one technique to defend yourself.

If you’re learning multiple techniques (e.g martial arts or self defense class), be sure to focus on one technique and practice it until you become competent.
